FUJIFILM (FUJIY) Stock Higher Today on Kalon Purchase

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Shares of FUJIFILM Holdings Corp. aare up 3.83% to $34.99 after it was reported that athe company, which is mainly engaged in the provision of imaging, information and document solutions,awill acquire an American maker of vaccines to order, gaining a foothold in a business with the prospect of global growth, the Nikkei Asian Review reports. The Fujifilm Holdings unit will buy 49% of Kalon Biotherapeutics from founder Texas A&M University and the state of Texas in a deal estimated at several billion yen. Fujifilm intends to acquire all of Kalon eventually, the Nikkei said. Founded in 2011, Kalon can safely handle and produce vaccines against some of the world's deadliest pathogens, including anthrax. It has received roughly $170 million in U.S. government subsidies and been designated by Washington as a key treatment provider in the event of bioterrorist attacks or other public health emergencies, Nikkei noted.
