NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Shares of JA Solar were gaining 6.4% to $8.30 Tuesday after the solar module maker beat analysts' expectations for earnings and revenue in the third quarter. JA Solar reported earnings of 21 cents a share for the third quarter, beating the Capital IQ Consensus Estimate of 15 cents a share by 6 cents. Revenue grew 71.3% year over year to $492.2 million, beating analysts' estimates of $425.25 million. The company said total shipments totaled 785.4 megawatts in the third quarter, up 57% year over year and 15.2% from the previous quarter. JA Solar expects to total cell and module shipments in the fourth quarter to total 850 MW to 900 MW. The company's weaknesses can be seen in multiple areas, such as its poor profit margins and generally disappointing historical performance in the stock itself."
