JD.com (JD) Stock Is Higher Today After Record Singles Day Sales

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Shares of JD.com were gaining 6.2% to $27.40 Wednesday after the Chinese Internet company announced it saw record orders during its 2014 Singles Day sale. The company said that more than 14 million orders were placed on JD.com during the Chinese holiday, an increase of more than 120% from the Singles Day 2013. JD.com said it sold 35.19 million items on Nov. 11, excluding its virtual products. "We saw outstanding sales figures for this year's Singles Day event, including strong numbers for mobile, which rocketed to over 40% of orders placed, as Tencent's Weixin and Mobile QQ began to drive traffic alongside our popular native app," CEO Haoyu Shen said in a statement.
